Annual Lunch 2006
We closed the office early on 29th December, and headed off to shangrila for the buffet. The party consisted of me, gitanjali, ms, pramodini, mehala, kavitha, shan, uncle chandran, uncle maniam, balan, ajeet (considered defacto member of office, since she babysat while we went off to the mountain) and kumar-viruschair. Pictures will be posted shortly, I promise, but in the meantime, this is what we had to eat (I know you can’t wait)…
(fanfare and trumpets please)
They had 5 types of cuisine on the board.
Italian, Japanese, Western, Chinese, Indian.
The Italian board consisted of antipasti, pasta, pizza, 1 type of risotto and lasagna
The Japanese were represented by a variety of cold sushi
Western was some kind of lamb, one kind of fish, potatoes, brussel sprouts (didn’t really understand the point of this – who would go to a buffet and voluntarily pick up brussel sprouts? Why why why? I don’t know, but it was there. Tasted just like brussel sprouts too – obviously I had to taste it, just in case it was some kind of special brussel sprouts stuffed with prawns or something – you can never tell), mussels cooked on the spot in tomato sauce, some kind of soup, and roast duck.
Indian food was 2 types of vegetarian dishes, 2 types of rice, naan, pratha, 2 types of gravy, mutton, chicken tandoori, 2 types of vegetable, and something else.
Chinese food had one counter frying noodles, a variety of dim sum, some kind of fish, some 3 types of vegetables, butter prawns, some type of noodle, thai fried rice (don’t know why, but it was nice)
On top of all this, they had a cheese bar, a salad bar, a dessert counter, with ice kacang and chendol and a chocolate fountain (I can safely say that the oldest member of our party and the youngest (Pramo and Gitanjali), being kindred spirits, both loved this, as did the rest of us (but not as much those two) with sticks laden with marshmallows, strawberries, grapes, sponge cakes, and whatnot, all for you to dip into the chocolate fountain (yum yum).
It was all lovely, and we ate and ate and ate (and then took a break and ate some more). Finally they closed the buffet, and we had to leave, so we rolled into the lounge next door, and had coffee. And then we all went home and slept.
It was such a wonderful way to close the year, being merry and so full that you couldn’t get up.
So anyway, here we are in 007, being royale, and slightly fat. But we have a plan to reduce the fat – which we shall soon unveil (hopefully tomorrow)… wait for it.
